Dodge Durango
1998-2003 models
FRONTAL OFFSET TEST

OVERALL EVALUATION: Acceptable
Structure/safety cage Injury measures Restraints/dummy kinematics
Head/neck Chest Leg/foot, left Leg/foot, right
Acceptable Good Good Poor Good Marginal

Important: Frontal crash test ratings can be compared only among vehicles of similar weight.
Test details:

The Dodge Durango was introduced in the 1998 model year.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement wasn't well controlled. As the dummy moved into the airbag, its torso went under and to the left of the bag. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the B-pillar. There was far too much upward movement of the steering wheel.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the head, neck, chest, and right leg indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the left tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be likely. Forces on the foot were high enough to damage the dummy's steel "foot bone," indicating that injuries to the left foot would be likely. Forces on the left femur indicate that injuries to the upper leg would be possible. Head acceleration from the B-pillar hit was low.

  • Wow.

On Oct. 16 my brother and I were in an accident in a Durango. The crash test is pretty correct. I broke my femur and fibula. I had an enormous gash in that leg, and was losing a lot of blood. I also tore up my left foot like the video implies. I broke three metatarsals and tore all the extensor tendons. In addition, I was slumped over to the side after the impact, and did not hit the airbag correctly. For a while I had no pulse or respiration. But God is good, and I am still here!!

  • well glad to hear you are alive....but how is your recovery going ?

  • wait you mean my durango isnt indestructible?? wtff

  • The only reason I looked this video up is because my mom was boasting about how much safer her stupid SUV was compared to a smaller car. SUVs are dangerous too Mom. In fact cars in general are dangerous.

  • @jwmckin08 My uncle (had one), until someone hit him head on in November of 2007. It twisted his ankle, shattered his tibia, fractured his femur, and i forget what it did to his knee but he also needed surgery on it. It wasn't an offset crash though it still messed him up pretty badly, he couldn't walk for just about a whole year.

  • I wouldn't have given it anything higher than a Marginal. The dummy's feet are severely damaged and it's head hit the door way after it hit the air bag. I definitely wouldn't have given it an Acceptable.

  • as much as i love this suv, it should recieve a fucking poor for what it did to my uncles leg

  • I hope they upgraded the strength of that car before the put them out to sale 0_o

  • @warzdune yeah iam seeing that every single piece of that car was completely compressed and they had to use the jaws of life to get me out.. im pretty sure a rollover is worst then a head on crash

  • safari bar!!! anyone? lol

  • @warzdune i think a roll over is worst then a frontal crash...

  • @RoundenBrown Go look at 97 Ford F150 and you'll know.
