  • hey now guys, please remember that music has a very strict definition and can only be done ONE way and if you don't do it that way then you are a lame excuse for a person.

remember to color inside the lines kids, otherwise you will never create beauty.

  • haha.. Nels Cline is a "Rubbish... bedroom guitarist" - its so funny to see all of the little uninformed kiddies make naive comments on the good ol' youtube!

  • This is possible one the THE best snippets of a performance I have ever seen.

  • @johnforz yeah, and john zorn doesn't know how to play sax. "rabble, rabble, rabble...dumb music enthusiasts and their theory!...rabble, rabble, rabble"

  • ha ha trolls got nothing to do but make trouble i enjoy the fact that free improv will someday become the norm!

  • nels is the shit and he is super versatile.

  • I think what rubs people the wrong way is when an artist known to be a good musician plays something off the way and alien, if you will, and fans of this artist think it's just solid gold or that he possesses some deep understanding unobtainable by the listener. I myself am a huge Nels Cline fan, but I don't see much to merit here. It's noise, it's still organized so It's music. I think Slipknot is awful, but I guarantee there is someone out there who would kill me for saying that.

  • In the Brave New World where the cultural establishment has been intentionally destroyed, this talentless, unmusical, degenerate garbage is hailed as art and its detractors are attacked by an ill-educated mob.

  • Does anybody here even know what ingenious means? Anyway, while this IS a poor (and most likely out of context) example of Nels' playing, those of you that are not familiar with him can rest easy knowing that yes, he really is one of the best musicians out there.

  • "He plays what he wants you to hear" that just made my brain hurt. What else are musicians doing if not playing what they want you to hear. If they didn't want you to hear it they wouldn't play it. Oh and there is noting special being done in that video.

  • I know that this clip could be taken out of context, but hearing one note strummed as fast as possible with a bunch of effects for 30 seconds does not make him look "ingenius".
