Solar and Wind Initiatives Towards Change
Student-run non profit organization SWITCH is determined in making positive global environmental change. The group strives to expand the use of renewable energies and conservation strategies to reduce green house gas emissions throughout the Toronto District School Board. William Lyon Mackenzie C.I.'s project is where the movement began. The project for this school was to install a combination of solar panels and wind turbines on school grounds, while also integrating electricity conservation strategies. By simultaneously reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and implementing environmental consciousness into their lesson plans, William Lyon Mackenzie C.I. is well on its way in being an environmentally sustainable school. On April 17, 2007, Dr. David Suzuki as well as Steven Page of the Barenaked Ladies both agreed to join them for thier inaugural ceremony
btw a BIG thanks to Monica from PureFaith Productions for filming and posting this!

@paultobey Hi Nancy. I'm currently a University student who was a founding member (and Director) of SWITCH. I also coordinated the event in the above film. If you're still interested I can get you in contact with some of the current members of the team. Otherwise, you can call the school - name at the start of the clip - and ask for the staff advisor there (he can help you). Don't want to put out any personal info online ;).

I remember there was one time when we had to clean up Earl Bales Park in coalition with MAC's environmental and gardening club. And following on the same day we went downtown and met David Miller who passed out an award to one of the SWITCH executives. SWITCH also scored first place in the WindENG competition at Guelph Universuty in 2007. All these were very exciting time. You can find more info on facebook where there are more updates than on the official website. ^___^

You said it, and I too will stand and continue to show my support for SWITCH that IS making a HUGE DIFFERENCE upon the environment! We, SWITCH, have already come a long way and MUCH further than as shown in this vid! You can even learn more about us on the Much Channel's Climate Talk program.

hey buddy,
We've been told that before, and what's funny is that we succeeded in doing what people told us we would not be able to!
Half of our goal is complete - education! The amount of knowledge and experience that we have gained is outstanding. We enjoy the experience and we know that it indeed, will make a difference!
