  • Please think before you post such ignorant crap. Today they have said that ice in the fuel caused both engines to lose power.

  • lol unlikely it ran out of fuel. they put on extra fuel just incase they have to hold in a holding pattern or divert because of bad weather or other.

  • @Possel47 Thats correct,it was ice that formed on a non heated part of the fuel filters, causing them to block.

  • If you can walk away, it is a good landing! Pilots do this all the time, nobody dies and the Media forgets it..

  • They don't look right and unfriendly pilots!....I guess they are hypocrited....

  • @iggymateuk retard much? retracting flaps allowed the aircraft to extend the range of flight, meaning they made it over the perimeter fence and crash-landed just short of the runway threshold. retracting flaps was what saved the aircraft.

  • the first oficer was handling to aproach anyway as had been agreed before and the captain judged it dangerous to take over which was in my view the best decision with the time they had to respond.

  • Why does he refer to the crew as a "team". Everyone has to "improve" description sell by invoking sports.

  • First officer was handling the approach, but Captain made the decision of retracting flaps, and CSD co-ordinated the evacutation(3 people injured out of 168) so TEAM WORK!!stupid tittle

  • @iggymateuk - Does glide ratio mean anything to you? The flaps are increasing drag therefore reducing the distance that a plane can travel without it's engines running. WITH flaps extended you glide less but at a lower sink rate, and with the flaps Retracted you glide further, but at a higher sink rate. Therefore given the circumstances, they needed to clear the runway lights which were in the way, trading vertical speed for distance. if they hit the runway lights they would all be dead now.

  • "I have control" means, pilot takes command of the aeroplane, which is what you do when issues occur.

You do not retract flaps! that is the reason why they ended up with the landing gears over the wings, too much vertical speed.

  • The Captain did not freeze. He just decided to let the co-pilot land because he was doing a good job during the situation. He saved the plane and everyone else because he changed the flaps from 30 to 25. Without him the crash would have been a lot worse and everyone would have died. The media made out that he did nothing because he had a contract with BAl to not say anything till the investigation had took place. If anything people should have been praising him not trying to make him look bad.
