This is my brother, Matthew. He had a stroke November 2010 at 17 years old. Because of the stroke, he now has a aphasia, making it difficult for him to communicate.

  • Thank you all so much! I never thought Matt would get so much support and be able to reach this many people. I'm sure Matt will be exstactic to know his homework assignment has gotten him so many views (such an ego :D).

  • Laura thank you for posting this video! If you look on YouTube for Sarah Scott Stroke you'll see two videos of my daughter Sarah who had a stroke in May 2009 when she was 18 - she has aphasia. In the second video you'll see that she has made some progress, at first she speaks just like Matt, in fact she could only say yes and no. There is hope! Please get in touch if you want to xx

  • Matthew Gleason will grow up to be the man he was always meant to be, strong and beautiful, smart and loving. His heart is as big as his personality, his smile as bright and warm as any sunrise. Mom and sisters are taking such good care!!

Aunt Kathleen loves you very much.

  • Bless Matt and your family. He's seems to be a strong and brave young man. I'm inspired by his courage! Best to you!

  • Learned alot with this video. Thanks.

  • He has such a positive demeanor and great attitude!

  • Bless you. May Matthew remain as brave as he is and I wish the best for your family. He is a true inspiration and his smile is nothing short of priceless. His will-power urges us to carry on, hopefully with a smile as well. Amazingly brave. I'm inspired. :) All of the best wishes. El.

  • thank you!

  • Has Matt every thought of learning ASL (sign language) to help him communicate? I know that words don't come easily to those who are aphasic, but he may find sign language less frustrating to communicate :)

    All the best Matthew!!

  • Thanks for sharing, this is a great video. Looks like he has a great attitude despite such a frustrating problem. I hope things are all travelling in the right direction for him.

  • Oh my gosh he is so incredibly adorable. I'm in dental school and have an anatomy exam tomorrow... one of the things on our test is the different areas of the cerebral cortex and their functions (including Broca's & Wernicke's areas dealing with speech)-- so I stumbled upon this video to learn more about deficits in these areas. So glad I found this... what an inspiration! How is he doing? Has he made progress? :)

  • People like this need to be seen more, the smile on his face brings tears to my eyes. Dont ever give up.
