A traditional ghost story starring the excellent Peter Vaughan and Rosalie Crutchley. Made in 1973, the script was written by Brian Scobie and Sture Rydman, based on two stories, 'Nobody's House' by A.M. Burrage and 'Middle Toe of the Right Foot' by Ambrose Bierce. Sture Rydman also directed the piece. Aired on the BBC, date unknown, but presumably sometime in 1973 or 1974.
I'd never even heard of this before. Great production! Looked like it was shot on film, too, which is unusual for a 30 minute teleplay (especially on the Beeb!) Thanks Pam - great stuff as ever!

Thanks so much for this. I saw the film 20+ years ago and have been looking for it ever since, mainly to hear Marc Wilkinson's lovely Ondes Martenot based score again.
Great channel. An important archive of videos that should have been available to new audiences long before now. Good for you!

Thank you so much for sharing "The Return" with us! I have wanted to see this short ghost story for years, since viewing it in the 1970s. I enjoyed seeing the actress who also played the housekeeper at Hill House in the famous film, The Haunting. Many Thanks, Pam! I love your channel!!

Yes! More great unknown 70s TV. I too will save this one for Christmas to go along with this years feature, which will be The Ice House.

I enjoy these subtle and discerning traditional tales...reminiscent of M.R. James. The tale is in the telling - the action is implied or inferred -
