Today Alive in Baghdad brings you the opinions of two Sunni doctoral students.

We hope the diversity of their opinions, and disagreements about the nature of fundamental subjects such as the right of resistance will help break the misunderstanding of Sunni opinion.

Sunnis, Shi'as, Kurds, and Iraq's various minorities have personalities and opinions that speak past these simplifying identities used in the mainstream press.

Alive in Baghdad is totally funded by donations. Please consider donating to help support our work.

  • the guy on the right is most likely a shia "ali"

  • okasha88, I shot this interview. "Ali" is not his real name, which is why it is in " ". They are both Sunnis, of that I can assure you. Furthermore, your assumption that names delineate sect is ignorant and misinformed. One of our own reporters Marwan was kidnapped by Shi'a militants who refused to believe he was a Shi'a because he had a "Sunni" name. Please inform yourself better before making such comments.

  • The gentlemen in the video managed to have a civil conversation on very charged subjects that involved their friends' lives and their own lives being in danger as a matter of everyday life. This is a model for exchange, and the only way towards peace. If you can't comment without adding inflammatory remarks, you are not adding to the dialog, but merely being a tool of your own emotions, and perpetuating violence in your own small way.

  • Well said.

  • @okasha88 ali doesnt have to be a shia name my dads name is ali and he is not shia

  • @Pruncible Very well said.....I try to make very similar points myself in the comments that I make on YouTube also....

  • I agree with Ali. The "resistance" killed many more Iraqis than Americans. Some US troops committed horrible crimes, but the Ba3thi and Salafi scum mass murdered many times more Iraqis.

  • Gnadhi didnt fight successfully.British gave India freedom only when they thought it was time and the Brits had no interest anymore. If you know the actual history, it was Subhash Chandra Bose who lead INA to armed resistance against British troops in India and that agitated the British and Bose was the most popular liberation leader in India during that time, not Gandhi.Gandhi as immortalized after WW2 cause Bose got help from Japan and Germany and he was dead. Gandhi myth is western propaganda

  • @hindwood, US took peace away from Iraqi's lives.

  • Why would I sign up for a war i don't believe in? Where would my will to fight come from?? We are invaders and it's a shame you can't see this, if we weren't, than Iraq would be funding this whole liberation thing you call "Iraqi Freedom", the joke is on US!! My opinion comes from Millions of refugees in America, who have fled and lost a family member to this "Liberation"

  • Yeah and our soldiers will continue to die day by day, Iraqi people see us as invaders, we are not welcome .. you should sign up for the army and check on you after a year and see if you still have the same opinion.

  • self determination or no self determination it does not give them the right to steel a country

  • Doesnt it ever cross ur mind that kurds havent been giving the right to self - determination, for many, many years?
