Nissan cuts send shockwaves across north-east. A quarter of the workforce is axed at the carmaker once seen as a symbol of hope.

Dan Civico and graduates from Teesside University present Hope, a three minute looped film that offers an insight into modern robotic technology and production line manufacturing. The film shows the interaction between two car manufacturing robots, a large mother robot and a small child robot, following the near collapse of the Nissan factory, Sunderland, January 2009.

Ten years ago 90% of all industrial robots were used by the automotive industry. Today, however, only 50% are used in this field. It seems that after decades of speculation we are finally moving into a robotic revolution and designers across all disciplines will have the opportunity to use robots in the manufacturing process.
