Convention floor, state signs, voting (1st ballot), CU California delegation sign (California casts 70 votes for Governor Earl Warren), LS Dirksen casting the Illinois votes for Taft. LS New York delegation, former candidate Thomas Dewey responds to cheers as he rises to announce NY votes (NY casts 92 votes for Eisenhower and 4 for Taft). Pennsylvania delegation and Governor Fine (53 votes for Ike). LS of voting continued. Ike watches TV set in room and notes that he is running well ahead of Taft. The result of the first voting is announced (5 for Ike just 9 short). The rush for the bandwagon, Minnesota sign frantically waved. Minnesota is recognized. Chairman Martin announces winning total, demonstration, Martin calls for unanimous vote and announces that General Eisenhower is the GOP candidate. Convention floor as delegates get ready to select candidate for V.P., strongest contender is young Richard Nixon shown with Senator Knowland of California.
