Yes! My Japanese is now good enough to translate the first chorus of "What in the Butt" in broken Japanese!

I have heard the order of questions mixed around before, and t's somewhat confusing. For example, sometimes one would say "Kore wa nann desu ka?" as you've shown. I have also seen "Kore wa nani?" It that simply a less formal wording? Thanks.

Kore wa nann desu ka? Kore wa notebook desu. can you say "Nani?" when some calls out to you or looks at you as if to address you?

Thank you very much for your comment!
It encourages me to continue this.

Sorry I'm only commenting to this now, the book I'm using is teaching hiragana as it goes, so grammar progress is slow.
Would なにいろ be pronounced nani-iro or naniro? The second one sounds a bit more natural to me, but I'm just a gaijin!
A bit like `arigatou' often being pronounced `ariato' :o)
Love the lessons by the way, there's no substitute for hearing natural language spoken by a native speaker - the books are only of limited use. They're much appreciated. Thanks. :o)

Hey Buddy!!
Nani=What, Iro=Color. なに + いろ = なにいろ
So, when you write, you need to separate it by each meanings.
However, when you speak, you can pronounce Naniiro as one word.
Anyway, I recommend you to pronounce so that you feel comfortable in a conversation.

Hey buddy!
When you write, Nani-Iro (なにーいろ)is better.
It is separated by each words meaning. Cuz, Nani=What, Iro=Color.
However, When you speak, as a pronunciation, you can say Naniiro as one word.
Anyway, I recommend to pronounce as you feel comfortable in a conversation.
Have a good one!
