  • Thanks for visiting the USDA Food Safety Channel. In response to your question: The food in the refrigerator and freezer should still be safe. The refrigerator will keep food safely cold for about 4 hours if it is unopened. A full freezer will hold the temperature for approximately 48 hours (24 hours if it is half full) if the door remains closed. In this situation the refrigerator had enough time in between power outages, to return to a safe temperature.

  • We lost power two nights in a row (and waiting for a third one at any time). The first night, the power was out for about two hours. The second night, for about an hour and 15 minutes. That said, how safe is the food in the fridges and freezers after two nights with no power for those times mentioned?

  • Great work here.
