Only based on the huge population of native Chinese speakers. I was talking about *second languages* and I think you'll find that more people have English as a *second language* than Chinese. I never mentioned Spanish either?
Well, if you study people, you will find that more people have French/Spanish as a second language than you think. Most people can speak a little English but that does not make it their second language. In most of Europe, people's second language is either French, German, Spanish or Russian. In china, and India which, combined, make up 1 3rd of the world's population, most people do not know English. So, all in all, I do not agree with your conclusion about English as a second language, either.
you dont need to understand the language their body language and tone should be enough, thats what makes opera so wonderful. I love the language tho...
