Located in Delaware
I am the second owner of this very capable RWD automatic transmission hauler (167,000 orig. miles) which I have kept well serviced (Oil Changes, etc), the first owner is a friend who used it for around town and family trips and gave me his service records as well.
I used it mainly on highway traveling with equipment in the cargo area, NEVER used for towing trailers, etc. This is my 3rd Ford Aerostar, I love these vans.
Last week the head gasket went, so this is for somebody interested in taking a good van that still has a lot of life left in it and doing the repair themselves or having a friend do it.
Most Aerostars, including my last one easily reach the 250,000 mile mark if maintained accordingly.
This is a great team/people hauler, ideal for bands, equipment and commercial business, or any other application that requires over 170sq feet of cargo space! 2 tall people can comfortably lay down on its cargo area (8 foot long!).
Even while fully loaded with equipment the 3.0liter 6 Cylinder engine in this Aerostar was giving me 16-18MPG average city/highway! Yes, with a full load in the back! The rear seats are in excellent condition (not pictured).
✔ Critical Issues that need to be tended to:
• Head Gasket replacement. (Still can be driven around locally, just watch the coolant fluid).
• Bad TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) replacement (causes unnecessary up/down shifting, but does not impede driving, just annoying).
✔Other positive AND negative characteristics:
• I have to put a quart of oil every 2000-2500 miles (leak). And I have it serviced every 3000 miles.
• The interior is not pristine, you can tell that the vehicle has seen a bit of work, however, it is still respectable, even if you wanted to use it for everyday/family transportation.
• Carpets have blemishes that can be cleaned. It comes with heavy duty all-weather rubber mats for the front. Dash board is still intact.
• Driver's seat shows a bit of upholstery tear and wear, however it is still one of the most comfortable seats I drive on to this day.
• There is a pretty cancerous rust spot outside on the pinch weld behind the driver's door which is fairly evident (see photo). Also, some rust is beginning to creep on both front door floor-boards.
• With exception of the cancerous (rust) spot mentioned before, the rest of the body panels are rust free. Pain is dull in most areas. A good wash and polish + wax could work wonders I believe.
• There is a problem with the windshield fluid spray motor. It may be bad or may have become disconnected, should be an easy fix.
• Dashboard instrumentation, lights, heat and AC, etc are all in GOOD WORKING ORDER however.
★ List of recent upgrades, parts and fixes:
• New brake lines in the back.
• 4 New Tires
• New Radiator
• New muffler from the cat all the way back.
• 2 New Rear Adjustable Air shocks (great for heavy loads).
• Recent transmission check-up and maintenance.
• Recent brake check.
• At around 90,000 transmission was rebuilt by first owner.
• At around 90,000 the differential was rebuilt by first owner.
• Rear Bench seats come with it. They are in excellent shape.
...and more.
