perhaps drilling technology will mathematically turn peak oil into more of a cliff oil (rapid falloff of production)

We already have reach the "peak plateau".
The big question is can traditional agriculture and sustainable energy provide enough food and clean water for the 6.8 billions and growing, inhabitants off this finite earth. We'll find out in the next 30 years.
