  • you probably will answer this but each platter has independent information?

    in other words - If the "c" drive is formatted to be on the first 50gig of a 500gig drive it would be on the top platter or is it segmented on the 1st 2nd 3rd platter?

    Is the top platter usually where the C drive starts?

  • The data is written to all the platters at the same time. It is not segmented by platters, it is all on all platters. Now Partitions begin on Cylinder Boundaries so your partitioned data is divided up according to the location where you created your partition.

  • what the hell does degredate mean?

  • It is usually used in Raid arrays to tell you that a Drive died and that the controller is doing mathematical calculations to replicate the original data.

  • I agree. Static is the problem cause by the person, not the drive. There is no replacement for using good static control processes.
