Members of Mercy For Animals hold a silent candlelight vigil outside Chicago's City Hall to mourn the repeal of the foie gras ban. Foie gras, French for "fatty liver", is produced by jamming metal rods down the throats of ducks and force-feeding them until their livers become diseased and swell up to ten times their natural size. Birds exploited in foie gras production often live in filth and extreme confinement and are subjected to cruel slaughter. The best way to prevent animal cruelty is to adopt a vegetarian diet. This hurts me...I can't believe that there is even something like this available. When I saw it being sold at the store I work at, I immediately emailed my company; it was taken off it's shelf.
