Just restored! I bought it at a tag sale around 1990 and just had it for decorative purposes until tonight!
It was in pretty good condition when I got it so it was fairly easy to fix up.

  • Post the serial number that is on the oval right front base and I can tell you the date and for sure if it's a 66.

  • Excellent, I've been wondering if it's really a 66. I purchased an antique darning "set " on ebay for a Singer 66 and it did not fit. The serial number is AC170760.

    Thank you!

  • Singer shows AC142066 through AC177065 as model 66 and made in 1928 and they made 35000 machines in that group. It's a 66, the darning set was probably mis-labeled by the seller. At least now you know for sure it's a 66 and how old it is.

  • Thank you!

  • I just dug out my mothers Singer 66 treadle and you and I are twins. This one is in very good shape and has no rust or pits. Serial no. AB 882436 dated it to Oct. 1927. However, the instruction manual which is in excellent shape is in Spanish. Found English version on eBay. Now all I need is a belt.

  • The model 66 and attachments came as either side mounting or back mounting. The back mounting have a two prong fork and slips up and the thumb screw tightens in back. Was your darning set back mounting?

  • 'decorative purposes' indeed. Back in the late 80s. A pub near me had these things as tables in the bar, well part of them. They had the cast-iron treadle part minus the sewing machine bit, fixed underneath a wooden table top. They looked kind of cool.

I don't think they're really scarce valuable collectable items yet. As they where mass produced in great numbers for decades. Often they still turn in junk shops for not a lot of money.

  • great job: where can you get spare parts? i just purchased on over the weekend and the cable broke in my hands

  • How ironic, is that a replacement belt in the colour of yellow with a round profile?

my mother improvised a new belt for hers until she got someone in to staple up the old leather one and it happens to look just like that.

  • You did a great job on restoring you treadle!
