  • Hi, i just want to ask how you made your cymbal chokes sound on SD2.0, I got a Yamaha DTX550K triggered into SD2.0, but i couldn't make the cymbal choke sound out of it. Is there any settings to do on MIDI map?

  • @ronealika - Your best bet is to email us... we'd need to know which host you're using. There are basically 2 methods: a) Aftertouch or b) MIDI Mute notes. To use option (a) you need to ensure that your host isn't filtering Aftertouch.

  • @PlatinumSamples Thanks for the reply. My host DAW is Pro Tools m-powered 7.4, and i've already inquired about it from yamaha engineering department. All the Yamaha DTX Series trigger module cannot transmit Aftertouch. That's why i'm wondering how you did it on this video.

  • @ronealika - Pro Tools by default filters out Aftertouch messages. The DTXtremeIII does send aftertouch... not sure about your mode - ours does and works with both Superior and BFD. Some users have found that aftertouch works better with Pro Tools using the MIDI out (instead of the USB port).

  • Why does the SD2 version sound different than the BFD2 version that you have uploaded? I'm having a very difficult time choosing between these libraries (bfd2/sd2). Is the difference in sound due to the different engines, or just a small discrepancy in the output/upload to youtube?

  • @abulic They're different kits and different mixes.... just the same performance.

  • @ronealika Currently, Dtxtreme III/DTX900 and DTX700 module sends and receive poly aftertouch. Dtxpress IV/DTX500 doesn't send aftertouch, but they send "note off" command when you grab the cymbal. Some people tried it with Superior Drummer, but they do have a problem with it. But you can try it for sure.

  • It's hard to find many demos of the Toontrack version of Evil Drums. They are really good, and have quite a different flavor from the TT produced libraries. All the samples were recorded to analog tape first, and you can really hear the texture. Not just for clicky metal, you can get nice classic rock sounds out of them too.

  • @PlatinumSamples OH durr, I just read the descriptions and it plainly says "kit 1" in one, "kit 5" in the other. I'm dumb and overlooked it. Thanks for the clarification :)

The samples sound effing great (the platinumsamples site needs a facelift though!).
