Of course software is expensive to make! Are you people retarded or something? Did you see all those cubicles?
Cubicles are the driving force of our economy. They break the spirit of the 80 plus hour rank and file who do the actual work and give the middle managers a purpose (rearranging cubicles).
Next time you get the feeling that a society centered around over priced imaginary property isn't realistically sustainable... STOP and think of the cubicles.

I wonder why programs back then were about and sometimes a lot more expensive as they are today? Back then you had maybe 128K to work with and making those programs weren't that hard. I can understand today with programs that run into the gigabytes with modern graphics and sound but back then it was possible to have the whole program written down on few sheets of paper.

I grew up in Dubai. Back in the 80's, software piracy was basically legal (largely because the government didn't give a shit) and finding any original copies of any game, or movie for that matter (yes many places offered blatantly pirated movies. I remember getting a tape of Aladdin from Pizza Inn after we got their 'pizza with free movie' offer. The tape was the shittiest quality I've ever owned, and to top it all, the movie was BANNED in the UAE!). So during that time, it was a piracy haven.
