@darknight068 even without the RAM cart, the Saturn still had beefier hardware that was far superior to the PS1 in terms of 2D graphics (sprites).
The Saturn could have probably kept the 2v2 gameplay with a siginificant portion of lost animation frames, while we all know that the PS1 couldn't even keep the 2v2 gameplay because of it's severe lack of VRAM and poor sprite capabilities.
Every single CPS2 game--and NeoGeo game--that was ported to the Saturn and PS1 was superior on the Saturn.

Capcom needs to make a compilation of these VS. games for the new systems! C'mon Capcom!!!

@darknight068: By the way, I don't know which Saturn you played SOTN on, b/c mine never had any slowdown. And the only reason the PS1 even had a 256 x 224 mode is so you could toggle it on and off when things started to get too bad. The PS1 had slower processor than the Saturn. And if you didn't know that, you probably never owned a Saturn. I owned both and still do.

@darknight068: SOTN on PS1 was only superior to the Saturn version when it came to transparencies, as were most PS1 games. But when it came to the animation and the amounts of sound channels, the PS1 lost every time. And MMX4 was better on Saturn. You gave me two game on PS1 the you thought were better than the Saturn versions, let me give you more games on Saturn that were superior to the PS1 versions: All SF games, All SNK games MM8, MVC, X-men vs SF, Silhouette mirage, and the MK games.

@Imadeyourun I can give two examples that weren't superior to their PS1 counterparts, SoTN and to a much lesser degree MMX4. X4 wasn't that big of a deal outside of a couple effects, but SoTN had horrific slowdown, and the lack of a 256 x 224 resolution mode meant it had to haphazardly upscale the graphics. Lack of gouraud shading meant every transparent effect either became solid or a dot mesh.
Aside from that though, yeah, if a game was completely sprite based the Saturn killed the PS1.

@darknight068: For the Saturn it was only a ram issue. For the PS1 it was ram and processing power. How about comparing every other 2D game that was ported to the system with out Saturn using the ram cart. I assure you that the Saturn will come on top ever time.

@risseer: Actually the Saturn had better 3D capabilities than the PS1. It was just too difficult for most developers to take advantage of the dual chip set. I remember Techmo saying that their Dead or Alive game wasn't portable to PS1 in it's original form. And that's why they had to remove the 3D backgrounds in the PS1 version.
-
@lookitskazzy: Yeah, the PS1 was shit for 2D games.
-
@lookitskazzy Ya the saturn was built for 2d,while Ps1 was built for 3d.Sega tried to make the saturn do 3d but it wasn't very good at it,It was really hard for devs to make 3d games on it.
