So here's me modding the clear case Dreamcast shell I bought from ebay recently. The donor Dreamcast cost me £2.50 (+ about £5 postage) and the LEDs and yellow wire came to about £4 total. In the end I fitted around 17x 5mm LEDs instead of the 8 I had originally planned. Completed in an afternoon over about 5 hours. It all turned out pretty sweet I think! :)

  • i was jus thinkin martin, shouldn't u have used yellow LED's as opposed to normal (clear) LED's to have a more yellow effect?

  • @chaos3two I actually used blue LEDs in this project. I did buy yellow LEDs but they looked very orange compared to the replacement shell and were a lot dimmer than what I wanted. The light from the blue LEDs also kinda reacts with the yellow shell to give a really nice neon type effect.

There's a link to my tumblr account on my channel where you can see a photo of the DC lit up. It shows how the console looks in real life a bit better compared to the vid.

  • I'm having to catch up on all your videos, cause I've been a bit busy recently, looks lik you have too! That was fantastic, Don't think I could ever confidentally do that to a console, I've always been one to break one open every now and again, but anything but mild fiddling is scary!

Awesome Dreamcast you have there now. Shame to do it justice you always have to play it in the dark :P

  • @Cptalbertweskerful Haha, well I wish I could say I was busy doing cool stuff like going to the US for E3 :P . Very jealous!

It's not too difficult to do these type of mods. And older consoles are generally easier to work with because they're simpler and have a lot of free space inside to stick LEDs and components :)

  • Can i just ask if you have a link for the led's you used to replace the power switch?

  • @froggydarren I got mine from ebay. Just search for 5mm LED and whatever colour you're after.

  • Ive been looking for a custom Dreamcast Case like that for 3 years..that was the last time i saw them on ebay. If you have any leads and more of them please contact me bro, it would really help me out. thanx!!!

  • omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • my dream-cast was £0.99 + £3.99 P&P!

  • Damn I would pay you money to mod my DREAMCAST like your DREAMCAST, it would be so cool to show it to my friends, the reason I ask is because the case part is easy, it's the led lights that are tricky and I would like someone with experience to do it for me

  • Hey there. Do you just do consoles or could you also do desktop pc's. I would really like neon lights that look great in the dark, also clear case and lcd screen. Just curious.

  • This video is so cool, ive seen it like 20 times lol

  • @RetroGameTech yeah i can see what you mean now =]

  • It is abit funny that your ice cube tray is yellow like the replacement shell .
