This audio file was recorded at the UNCF benefit 30th Anniversary "An Evening of Stars" 'Tribute To Patti LaBelle' that took place at the Kodak Theatre Los Angeles on Sept. 13, 2008. The Evening was taped and broadcast on BET, WGN-National, and other local channels on JAN. 24 & 25, 2009.

I DO NOT OWN COPYRIGHTS ON ANY OF THESE VIDEOS OR SONGS AND DO NOT INTEND TO INFRINGE ON ANY COPYRIGHTS.. THIS IS SIMPLY SHARING MUSIC WITH FANS!

Because these 30 years of Tributes are benefits for UNCF, PLEASE consider visiting their site, making a donation, and getting involved in supporting that great organization -- as does Ms. Patti LaBelle.

There is a 'teaser video' posted by UNCF via Marketwire which gives you a very quick sense of that amazing evening with parts of Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson's performances:

  • They sound great but why oh why do recordings of so many historical events like this sound like a damned Folkways field recording? I know its a bootleg but what would the harm had been if the UNCF actually released some quality audio (AND video for that matter) of this?

  • @uegmusic

UNCF did indeed release a DVD of this event -

Call them to find out what you need to do to obtain it..

Maybe someone is selling it on Amazon or eBay?

Enjoy my audio recordings meantime ;)

  • They didn't show the full part did they?

  • In the video broadcast, they cut off almost all of the songs and performances.. However, in the audio files I've posted to this account from that Tribute Evening, I've left them complete (sorry for all the whoopin' and hollerin' - we got carried away!)

  • They sound amazing and don't forget that this is just Nona and Sarah singing--they are singing to Patti, who is in the audience from what I understand! Can you imagine what it'll be like when all three are singing?

  • Nona and Sarah sang with backup singers on this number, and then they joined Ms. Patti on the stage with all the other performers for another version of Lady M., after Patti did "A Change is Gonna Come"..

they also went out into the audience to give a hug to Patti during this one... Patti was in a center orchestra area with friends and family, sitting in something resembling a throne! ;-)

  • please. don't want, don't listen

  • Also saw Sarah at Diva's Simply Singing in L.A. Oct 11th and she sang beautifully. She used her voice in three different tones. She's a very underrated vocalist. Even at 65 or so she still has a very powerful and clear sounding voice.
