The Golden Valley Police and Fire departments recently honored Golden Valley resident John Richter, 86, for donating $5,250 to the Public Safety Department to purchase exercise equipment. Exercise is important to Richter, who spends 40 minutes a day on a treadmill and also swims three times a week.

Brooklyn Park will offer Little Tot Playtime for children 6 and under starting September 8 through mid-December. It will be offered 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday at the Community Activity Center and 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday and Friday at Zanewood Recreation Center. The cost is $2 per child, payable at the main office. This is an unsupervised program and adults must accompany children.

Help with paying for school supplies is in high demand this year. Fortunately, program's like CEAP's Back to School Program help defray the costs. In a feature video, Sun Post editor Wendy Erlien looks at this year's backpack distribution by CEAP.
