I dislike the many workplace safety films and videos that have the point of view that workplace accidents are the result of worker carelessness or stupidity. Modern behavioral-based safety programs, popular with employers, are based on this view, which is not supported by health and safety research. This 1970s film though shows a more realistic view (in my experience) of how accidents happen -- because of pressure from foremen and management to ignore or short-cut safety to keep up production. Luckily, the worker in this film is well trained and resists the orders to do unsafe work. He probably is a union member with good safety contract language. For more on the problems with behavioral-based safety programs, link to http://www.hazards.org/bs/blamingtheworker.pdf . This film, Harry's Hot Permit, was produced by the Workers Compensation Board Alberta in cooperation with the Petrochemical Industry of Alberta
A film crew causes a confined space accident, seen it happen a million times! Haha. Gets the point across but give comedy props to the Alberta WCB for the movie producer on a shut-down idea. Thanks for sharing this!
