Classic Game Room reviews SPACE HARRIER for Sega Master System from 1986, the 8-bit version of the Yu Suzuki arcade classic. While the Sega Master System doesn't handle the game with smooth perfection or arcade quality visuals it does a great job trying. Relatively responsive controls make playing Space Harrier fun but choppy visuals ruin that arcade quality experience. It was difficult to see exactly where enemies were or to avoid obstacles, but back in the 80's this game was the bomb on the Master System. Fans of Space Harrier should look for better versions these days like the Sega Saturn version, Wii arcade, PS3 and 360 or 32X. This CGR review of Space Harrier on Sega Master System has gameplay from Space Harrier on Sega Master System showing Space Harrier game play.

  • @willia3r OK,ok....Don't get mad.....

Mark is,in my opinion, the best reviewer ever.I never had complaints on his reviews, nor did most of the people,so I find it weird for one individual complaining.

  • @willia3r You kidding me?

Mark is a gamer since Atari 2600....

  • If Space Harrier 3D on SMS had not been hampered by the 3D (which halved its fluidity), it would have been faster and smoother than the Space Harrier SMS.

  • @willia3r I respect your opinion then.

I often find in my personal anecdotal experience that people who often dislike 1980s-era videogames are often people who were born in the 1990s and are used to modern Cinema-style games that are the standard today.

Now you claim to be of the later generation in question who has an appreciation for the 1980s era videogames, so that is commendable. But you are an exception to the rule. 1 person who is an exception in my opinion does not exactly overturn the rule.

  • @willia3r yes I read your comments -__- and I agree with you that games should be compared to their generation, you're right.

I was refering to your first comment, when you said that anyone who grew up in the 80's would understand, and that they would have to live IN that time period to understand.

That's where I dissagree with you.

Hence my example that I grew up later than this generation, and actualy prefer the generation before the 8 bit era.

    That's what I am saying.

Have you read my posts or are you actually piggybacking off on what others have said?

My point, is that if you are going to judge a game, judge it by the standards of the typical 8-bit games of that era. Don't judge it by the standards of the modern era. In other words, judge the Sega Master System with the original Nintendo system. Judge the Super Nintendo games along with the Sega Genesis.

Keep it fair, is all I'm saying.

  • @willia3r He grew up with the Atari -.-

I grew up with super nintendo, but give me a colecovision any day.

you don't have to grow up with a console to appreciate it, I am proof of that.

    prejudice is a bad thing.

  • I was 7 when I got this game, fuck it was hard. I think the farthest I ever got was level 8.

  • @willia3r not agree with you, you don't have to litterally grow up in those times to know what you are playing

  • @willia3r were you in the king of kong documentary?? lol but on a serious note, hes not judging the game by todays standards, he been gaming since your time, so hes pretty up on his stuff. hes just pointing out certain things that could have been done better, in hindsight. because obviously at the time, they were doing the best with what they had. he states its an awesome game but he rather play it on other systems. wish i grew up in your era, the golden age of gamming. now its cod shit sucks.

  • I actually had this game with the model 1 SMS back in the day. This game was hard. The farthest I got was level 16 and that was using the secret 3 continues. This is one of my favorite SMS games ever.
