Washington, DC -- The Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV, and a bipartisan majority of the Committee (10-5), today unveiled the final two sections of its Phase II report on prewar intelligence. The first report details Administration prewar statements that, on numerous occasions, misrepresented the intelligence and the threat from Iraq. The second report details inappropriate, sensitive intelligence activities conducted by the DoD's Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Policy, without the knowledge of the Intelligence Community or the State Department.

"Before taking the country to war, this Administration owed it to the American people to give them a 100 percent accurate picture of the threat we faced. Unfortunately, our Committee has concluded that the Administration made significant claims that were not supported by the intelligence," Rockefeller said. "In making the case for war, the Administration repeatedly presented intelligence as fact when in reality it was unsubstantiated, contradicted, or even non-existent. As a result, the American people were led to believe that the threat from Iraq was much greater than actually existed."

"It is my belief that the Bush Administration was fixated on Iraq, and used the 9/11 attacks by al Qa'ida as justification for overthrowing Saddam Hussein. To accomplish this, top Administration officials made repeated statements that falsely linked Iraq and al Qa'ida as a single threat and insinuated that Iraq played a role in 9/11. Sadly, the Bush Administration led the nation into war under false pretenses.

"There is no question we all relied on flawed intelligence. But, there is a fundamental difference between relying on incorrect intelligence and deliberately painting a picture to the American people that you know is not fully accurate.

"These reports represent the final chapter in our oversight of prewar intelligence. They complete the story of mistakes and failures -- both by the Intelligence Community and the Administration -- in the lead up to the war. Fundamentally, these reports are about transparency and holding our government accountable, and making sure these mistakes never happen again," Rockefeller added.

  • wow, youre right, i cant believe i didnt see it before. your logic is undeniable. i think we should all make calls to our senators and just start screaming obscenities at the first person that answers regardless of their job title. secretaries answer the phone, not PR questions or questions from constituents, thats the job of the aforementioned senator or PR person. they are to answer and direct the call. it would be irresponsible to have a temp answer questions regarding policy, would it not?

  • She is evasive and perfect to be employed by the govt.

    "Sir?"

  • Here's a tip, when dealing with bureaucrats you need to understand the language and process.

    1) Stay calm.

    2) Ask for the Press Secretary/Comms guy

Knowing the structure of the office helps that way you can ask for people by name. That usually throws them.

  • You are still missing the broader point:

MOST OF CONGRESS DOES **NOT** WANT TO TALK TO THE "PEOPLE" or the press. The only people they really want to talk are large campaign contributers and lobbyists. Congressmembers deliberately put young, clueless, uninformed people on the phones. Their press secretaries are almost always unavailable (I called PR sec office phone and cell phone - no answer).

NO ONE if forcing this poor girl to work to protect the old, man Congressmember.

  • thank you for proving my point. you and ralphdraw3 aren't really interested in getting anywhere, you just want to argue with someone, anyone, just to be heard. i feel ya. i said i understand the frustration with the gov't, but clearly being a vet. of screaming matches on phone calls, you would think you would know better than to just lose your cool on the wrong person but, meh, whatever. thats all,im done.

  • cstand31 I can just hear you on the phone, preaching and raving on. You are wrong if you think he should not be irritated. You are the one who clearly does not get it. You did not look far enough, there are some pretty intelligent comments disagreeing with you. Simply put the girl did not do her job. It was her job to take control and give him his options as to who to speak to. Frustration was in order! Please stop directing your ranting to me. Calm down, use your own advice and move on.

  • its like im speaking greek. i understand the mission, i understand the message, i also understand the frustration. what im trying to convey is, clearly getting agitated and belligerent towards the lowest person on the totem pole of the office went nowhere, no mattter how agitated and angry.why not use that energy constructively and follow the proper channels. dont get answers, move up the list, etc.. judging by the rest of the comments on this video, clearly im not the crazy one, both of you are.

  • you are right. I don't know what I was thinking.

  • cstrand31 I think you need to listen to the conversation again. In my book he wasn't even close to screaming. You are exaggerating. He kept trying to explain his mission over and over to her. She never once told him how to reach the right person to speak to or offered to direct his call. I've called Senate offices before and immediately get directed. I have also had political questions answered by phone staff as well. This girl was untrained and unprofessional.

  • Wow,

    you're undeniably correct

This "girl" is just a sweet innocent, helpless, by-stander... and Washington/ Congress is just the place for such a person. She knows nothing of the ways of Washington or what is going on in the larger world.

All that she needs to know is that she is working for a

    S-E-N-A-T-O-R

    from "Missouri"

named B-O-N-D. that's all she needs to know.

Don't trouble her with the fact that Americans her age are dying in Iraq and being shot at while she is onphones
