Captain Beefheart's "Kandy Korn" with images of candy corn and other Halloween stuff. Mr. Van Vliet, if you see this video, I hope you find it acceptable. I sure do like your song! I think it's the best Halloween song ever, although I don't know if that is what you intended it to be when you composed it.

Maybe they would have preferred "Calling Dr Love" by Kiss instead... As you well know, it's no small feat to carefully cover such a complex song. I agree, you would have gotten a much better reception in a different place such as San Francisco...

mcdstuff, that's the first time I've ever heard of anyone learning how to play Kandy Korn. Taking into account how long, complex, and unconventional the arrangement is, I consider that to be no small accomplishment!

@Joeycito1968 Meaning no offense: Compared to works by Glenn Miller, Buddy Rich, ELP, King Crimson, Duke Ellington -- any of the classic big banders, really -- this is hardly complex. Like Zappa's complexity Beefheart's is grossly overrated. Doesn't make him bad of course, just not what he's too often made out to be.

@richcapo Good points. I agree, I wouldn't put Beefheart in the same category as those other artists you mentioned with regard to the complexity of his music. That said, much of his work seems to be more complex than a lot of pop music out there.
