In this Danwei Music meet experimental musician Wu Fei. She is classically trained on the guzheng, one of China's most ancient string instruments. Wu is a Beijinger but now lives in the United States, where she studied music and recorded her first solo album "A Distant Youth." In this episode we film her on her China tour as she improvises on the guzheng with other experimental musicians and in the courtyard of her family's Beijing apartment.

Here are her websites: www.wufeimusic.com and myspace.com/feiwu
the record label is www.forresthillrecords.com(ITA)

  • Very interesting and I just bought her CD " A distant youth" on Amazon and it has very beautiful music both traditional and modern.

  • The chatroulette piano improv makes me wish I played piano!

  • bravo

  • I wish I learned how to play guzheng or harp or ocarina or pan flute or any other exotic instrument instead of piano...

Piano is so boring and commonplace... :V

  • you will only suck if you say you do....say you are a guzhenger!!! and you are improving....we should not say we are the worst right? skill can always be improved!

  • I just bought this instrument, and it was really interesting to hear some history on it. Like to watch diff people appreciating this instrument.

  • interesting

  • now thats some beautiful art she's masterd AWESOME TALENT!!!!!!

  • That wind blowing through the strings is called aeolian vibrations, like an aeolian harp. Google it for more info.
