Great technique - it also puts less pressure on the grommet itself (spreads out the forces), which will extend the life of your gear.

What about carabiners fixed to your strings? Easy way of clicking on, off. And you dont have the problem with always looking after a good branch, especially if its raining. Just add a some rope loops on the tarp and you can easily choose which one you want to use. Well my 5 cents.

just tie a slipped double sheet bend straight to the tarp and you don't have to wander around collecting sticks.

Wow I thought I was the only one that did that. It's a good way to keep your cordage long and not have to cut it too. Good looking out and see you on the trail

good idea not to mention that the gromet takes all the tenion and tears out from the tarp after while .
you could just as easily use carabiners... honestly I;ve never had to look for adequate twigs though i can usually find one by my feet that is long enough accommodate every grommet on my poncho.
carbiners will definitely work.. just a different way..
