Captive Bred Mississippi Map Turtle, Graptemys pseudogeographica kohni
A Mississippi Map Turtle derives its name, not from the state, but the river. Its range is along the Mississippi and its tributaries from Illinois/Missouri southward. It is a popular pet for aquariumists and is very enjoyable to watch. Females are considerably larger than males. The male being 3 ½ to 5 and the female anywhere from 6 to 10. Males have a leaner look more like juveniles, but females have a larger, bulkier build.
