Listen to the whole interview: http://www.wnyc.org/shows/soundcheck/episodes/2009/10/15/segments/142612 Senegalese pop star Baaba Maal is a music ambassador of many causes: poverty, AIDS, religious tolerance, and the culture of the Fulani people. He is also an ambassador of music mixes, and has often combined traditional West African sounds with pop, reggae and even hip-hop. On his latest album, Television, he teamed up with members of the New York-based band Brazilian Girls. He joins us for a live performance.

  • The two 'yo-yo's' are great friends of Baba Maal's and are fantastic musicians. Although I do know first hand from an insider that just before the door to the studio closed and the recording of 'Dakar Moon' began, Baba was heard to nervously ask his producer "what do you think rossrosskenny will think of my African originality?"

  • this isnt the best version of this song that ive heard but i think its a great track and the musicians who feature are amazing - thats barry reynolds by the way, the man behind marianne faithful, grace jones, anthony and the johnsons and the house guitarist for the compass point studios (so no, not a resort musician). the other musician is the talented multi-instrumentalist Jim Palmer.
