Yes, it has been very reliable so far, I would love to install a Gardner in this car. But it would not be original then unfortunately.

The engine probably is too worn out. You should check compression.

The engine is fine, I was the problem, this engine needs a lighter foot on the throttle when cold starting then my old diesel tractors. Now it starts just as well as my 2003 TDI.
