Another tune from the New Orleans to London LP of 1954.
Too Busy (Straight).
This is the band formed in 1953 when Ken returned from his adventures in New Orleans.

Personnel were: -
Ken Colyer (Tpt)
Monty Sunshine (Clt)
Chris Barber (Tbn)
Tony Donnegan (Bjo)
Jim Bray (Bass)
Ron Bowden (Dms) (more)

By the way - the girls are from the drawing office of the GPO Telephones dept. which I joined in 1967 - they knocked ten years off my age!

  • Who is the chainboy at 1:09?

  • That was I - surveying West Heslerton for an extension - with the lovely Margaret holding my staff. (C.1970)

  • You were lucky! There were no girls where I worked in GPO telephones in 1957 in Nottingham.

    btw is that York Minster?

    Thanks

  • Yes - a similar view from the office window to that in Lincoln. All Girls & Gaiters.

  • Gosh, what lovely young women. You were very lucky!

  • Barber was not part of this line up as I recollect.

  • THANKS ! took me back a few years, This was on one of my first LPs,I still have my Colyerr Club membership card. They used to play in basement of a church somewhere in W.1. round about this time 53-54. Pete. UK.

  • Lonnie Donegan presumably

  • I saw Chris at Palmerston North New Zealand 5 years ago and was as good as ever, had a long talk with the legend, a lifelong ambition, Doug

  • Monty Sunshine is still alive, but no longer active. I saw Ron Bowden recently at the Colyer event in London, marking the 20th anniversary of Ken's death.

  • Yes to the sturdle comment, sad to say even all good things change eventually, even New Orleans. Would I be right in presuming Chris Barber is all that is left of this great line-up? ♫♪♫♪

  • good times, all gone?
