Именно с этой песни осенью 1956 года начинал свои первые репетиции только что созданный мужской хор Московского инженерно-физического института. Запись, которую вы видите сейчас, сделана 50 лет спустя — на юбилейном концерте в Большом зале Московской консерватории.

It was this very song that the newly created choir of the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI) sang at its first rehearsals in autumn 1956. The record you are watching now has been made 50 years later — at the choir's anniversary concert in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory.

The sun had hidden behind the mountain,
River sandbars had been covered with mist,
Along a steppe road
Soviet soldiers were going back home from the war.

The shoulders of their shirts had faded
Because of heat and fierce swelter.
By their hearts
The soldiers had shielded their battle flag from enemies.

They were careless of their lives,
Defending the country—their homeland.
Fighting for the holy Motherland,
They had conquered all the enemies.
