In this documentary 'The tolerant Islam of Mevlana' you'll see the places connected with the live of the greatest of all Muslim-mystics and the ritual of the Mevlevi-Sufi's. Not just one of the 'performances', not even those once-a-year rituals at the day of his death, but the rare whirling of the greater circle, near his grave in Konya. With not a single but the 2 Sheikhs of the order present. The documentary is based on the biography 'Mevlana' by Mohamed el-Fers (ISBN 90 5330 049 X). The writer (and maker of this documentary) received the Merit of Honour from the Turkish Secretary of State Prof. Dr. Mehmet Aydın during the Third International Mevlana Congress in 2003 at the Selçuk University of Konya.

I doubt that! It has always been a fringe meditative cult practiced  from about the 12th century and in a small area centered around Konya in Central Turkey.

There are a few performances available in Istanbul and other places in Turkey - virtually only attended by western tourists.

In Indonesia, the largest Islam nation on earth, it is unknown.
