Views of the devastation caused by Hurricane Andrew south of Miami. Most of the pictures I took were immediately after the 165 mph Hurricane came through.

The first picture is a car dealership on 117th Ave and Coral Reef Drive.
The next two are just to the west on Coral Reef Drive. Picture 4 thru 7 are what was left of "Pine Lakes" located about 3.5 miles south of Country Walk. (these pictures were taken just after the worst of Hurricane had passed)

The picture of the town houses are near Lakes by the Bay in Cutler Ridge, and the picture of the house with that huge hole is in "Lakes by the Bay".

The 2nd to last photo is from near 117th ave and 119th st, and the last picture is from Homestead.

  • A cat 5 for sure........there were wind gusts in excess of 200 mph in several places. My home was in goulds and I rode the storm out in kendall. I will NEVER forget that night and I hope I never have to go through it again.

  • This is so sad. I was 8 when Andrew hit and I lived in Cutler Ridge right by the old Regal Cinemas that are no longer there. I was young, but at 26 now, I look at how painful and stressful it was for everyone and am so grateful to still have my family. We lost our home and I will never take anything for granted.... :(

  • I lived in Homestead while Andrew HIT!!!! i was 10 years old, i will never forget that experience, running from room to room, as doors, windows and walls caved in or were sucked out around us... i stepped out with my father during the eye, and it was so calm but everyones homes looked like a bomb went off, than the 2nd half hit.. me, my mom, dad, sister, and grandmother had to fight the storm in a bathtub holding the curtain from bedry while my father held the walls up from falling in us... :"-(

  • hurricane katrina dont have shit on this hurricane. infact katrina was not even a category five.

  • I was only like 3 when this hurricane hit, and two days after the hurricane hit my dads mom went to her house to look at the damages and she had a heart attack right in front of the house cause she was so shocked at the damages. RIP.

  • Spazzz96 I was near sw122 ave and sw168th st. down the street from robert morgan vocational. I stayed at my grandmas house huddled up in the hallway too lol. The weird thing with the animals is they knew a storm was coming because the cats wouldnt go outside for 2 days before the storm came. Our cats were never inside lol

  • I rememeber. I was only five but I remember waking up in my grandmothers house where we were riding out the storm in the middle of the night and my whole family huddled in the hallway with 5 dogs and the walls vibrating and the attic door opening and closing. I remember seeing my parents house for the first time and stepping on soaked carpet and half our roof was missing. We lived in my grandmothers house for 2 weeks. Then parents house in a trailer for months. Cutler ridge area.

  • this is why i dont live in those areas. If I lived there during hurricane Andrew or Katrina, i would move cause I dont want to go through that again.

  • hurricane katrina was worse. There been so many worse hurricanes than Andrew recently. It looks like these type of storms are gonna happen more often than only once in a 100 years..

  • i was in the westchester area... i was 17 years old. It was very bad....and we had no electricity or water for 4 days afterwards.... worst hit areas were homestead...further south.
