Ben Murphy appeared along with Pete Duel and Walter Brennan on the Dick Cavett Show in 1971. Cavett had been a guest star on Alias Smith and Jones, and this clip is from Cavett's description of his day on the set of Alias Smith and Jones. • Loved seeing behind the scenes, there aren't any more that I know of, I love the way that in the rehearsal Peter lights a cigarette and is puffing away on it, apparently this used to annoy the @@@@ out of Ben!! Peter Duel was such a talent and who knows what he would have gone on to, unfortunately Ben was always overshadowed by Peters acting talent, which you can clearly see in some shots where he just follows Peters lead!!

  • Peter Duel committed suicide not long after this was taped.

  • Yep, being Ben Murphy has its advantages.... like being Ben Murphy!

  • I discovered alias smith and jones in '05 and I became a really big fan so I learned as much as i could about Peter Duel and Ben Murphy very interesting guys especially Duel a talent that was never fully realized. Murphy simply cute.

  • Dick Cavett is slightly similar to Pete Duel.

  • Pete Duel and Ben Murphy were magic together on the screen. Such perfect actors for these characters. Is there any more after this clip -- comments by Dick Cavett? Or did they go to a commericial?

  • great video clip...what great memories this brings back....before VCRs my sister and I taped these shows on a reel-to-reel tape recorder...we just loved these guys! thanks for sharing!
