NEW VIDEO of Sister Rose at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vtA5Liiplo

Sister Rose was such an inspiration to all. She was commonly known as the Mother Theresa of Uganda. She died age 74 after being bed-ridden for the last four years with Alzheimers and Diabetes. She gave up a very well paying bank job in 1971 to take care of neglected children and then gave up everything she had, to the extent of sleeping on a mat on the floor, so that she could care for one more, needy child. The First Lady, Janet Museveni, in her eulogy called Sister Muyinzas life exemplary.

I met Sister Rose in 2000 when I went to Uganda to record the Children of Uganda.
It was in the restaurant in Kampala which was run by her Daughters of Charity. I remember one time when she wasn't well, I saw the room where she slept in the back of the restaurant. It couldn't have been more spartan and basic. She was indeed humility personified.
Then I met her again in 2004 when she was bed-ridden after a bout of cerebral malaria. My adopted daughter Karigirwa Sandra and I took her some flowers and a small gift. Sandra with two others, sang some of her favourite hymns and I felt so privileged to be a part of that small group sharing such kindness with a being of pure light. She touched so many lives in a very profound way and was definitely one of those on loan from above, sent here to bless so many. She was laid to rest on the 7th October 2009.

"I heard about a Ugandan nun who was working with orphans and had been doing so since Idi Amin was in power," Alexis Hefley recalls. "So I walked one day to her orphanage. It was in the centre of Kampala." That nun was Sister Rose Muyinza, who founded the Daughters of Charity in Uganda."
