●My grandfather was so looking forward to seeing his first grandchild that it made him treasure/adore the child all the more.

「目に入れても痛くないほど可愛がる」をtreasure（大事にする）、adore（熱愛する）を使って表現しています。「目に入れても痛くないほど可愛い子」は the apple of a person's eye といいます。
