Just going through the motions. Watching the way the paint gets drunk by Chinese paper very thirstily.
I notice also many videos popping up that are created by Westerners who have taken up chinese painting for better or worse and then start spouting off as i theyre some kind of master.
I find this dissapointing but also the Chinese must also find it insulting or comical.
Its one thing that the westerners have infested Chinese art with as theyre called "Westernisms",
but its another when they start hailing their abilities as "The way it's done."
I dislike this.
I suggest to all Westerners who study Chinese Arts to get on with it but don't think that without the spiritual stance of having been brought up in China, with its influences and art all around you always, that you can suddenly self hail professionalisms because of an immitation.
I would rather watch a master create one charascter than sit through a drawn out "how to" from someone western assuming they can do it better.
The west has very little spirit.
It is impossible to "Demistify" Chinese Art.
The West will never fully understand and so never fully appreciate what there is in Chinese Art, but we can, if we can just be quiet for a moment and forget ego and self hailing pedestals, quietly see it.
Well, I think at the time I was sort of simply in practice mode. Using very wet brushes and watching how the paint worked on these old single weight papers.
It was quite fun.
