How many hours total did this take you?

Superb job and best jong making vid yet.
I use a spade bit to make the pilot holes, I start in the front and also drill from the back, meeting in the middle. Then I use an air chisel (I made the first one with a manual chisel, the air chisel makes it fast and easy).
Great job, thanks!

Many thanx. I love my Jong, it works most awesome. it has gone thru a few variations, now mounted on a wall with springs. the springs work perfectly, though the laminated arms i swithced out. they do tend to split over time and hard to get perfectly smooth, but still use on occassion. i'll try to send foto. or check out my site, the Jong on the wall is the one i use daily. the springs actually give a bit more movement

Too many, it was my first. on average from raw log to mount, easy 100 hrs. as stated it was a proto type, down to about half that now.

charlie, i love responding and passing on what little knowledge i have. the saw horses i just pounded out on the day, no plans, but i loved the design. the uprites pull out to use as a regular saw horse, but i'll send some dim's and maybe a picture or two. Hardwood is best, the energy is not the same as soft wood. mine are all soft at this point. I like the idea of a full log myself, but they do make laminated bodies, as you might know. About the mortises for the arms, that is the mo

Yo charlie, thanx for checking out the video. I use 9" logs from the forest or from parks and service witht the city. Once you start looking around or asking, you should find cut down tree's or whatever, all over the place, especially after a storm. I own a chainsaw which helps. Many people do glue pieces together, or laminate, but it seems so time consuming. the hardest part is making the square holes, mortises, perfectly straight and level and at the correct angle.
