As a test of the shaping abilities of the belt sanding half of my new Jet JSG-96CS 6"x48" belt/9" disc sander, I used a curve on an existing piece of scrap to draw a curvy, convex quadrilateral on a small scrap of 1/2" construction plywood. The belt sander makes it so easy and fun to sand up the drawn line. If only I could do concave curves as well in this fashion. I suppose one day I'll just have to pick up a nice, big oscillating spindle sander.

For an encore, I took the second small scrap I had in this size (I usually end up with 2 or some other even number of identically sized scrap pieces), held this one firmly on top of it (no adhesive of any kind) and used it as a template to sand the second piece to match the first. Fantastic!

  • Imagine how many hours that would have taken with a set of files and sandpaper!
