I do not know about without comparison as the great war hit Europe, along with the Russian revolution and the Spanish flu at just about the same time killing perhaps just as many people as the black death though perhaps the percentage was smaller. Of course this without even mentioning WW II which followed shortly afterward.

There were fewer people in the New World than in Europe. Plus, the deaths of the Indians actually helped the Europeans conquer America more easily.

yeah but are you considering per capita? 95% of 100 is 95 people. 50% of 1,000,000 is 500,000. Are you also considering the period of time? Two years versus a hundred? You have to look at impact and population when dealing with percents. Percents don't mean anything except a part of a whole.
