Empirical Labs EL8 Distressor 1 Channel Compressor

The Distressor is an automatic gain (or volume) control device (AGC in engineering terms) designed for pro audio (music) applications. Basically, it electronically controls the volume of just about any source in a very pleasing, and "musical" manner - adding fullness, intelligibility, and especially in the Distressor's case - excitement. This type of device is often called a "limiter" or "compressor" by audio industry people. Its most probable uses will be in recording studios, live sound situations, movie sound production, and radio broadcast production.

These are really meant to give an intro or overview of the product, It is not an in depth review. Also, a product like this is not best demo'd in a Youtube video played on your computer speakers at home. Most quality audio companies do not even want youtube video demos of their products for this reason.

Works great on snare and bassdrum tracks. If you search for a compressor just for that! it's great !!!

I can't stand these NAMM show videos where some rep says "This is x product and it's great." SHOW US, DON'T JUST TELL US!!! I want to know why I would want this. This is why I don't watch any of the Frontend Audio (or as I call it Rearend audio) videos.

Love this peice. I used to get the best snare sounds in this little box. I know this sounds strange but, I only ever used this on snare and guitar. It never sounded right for me on vocals or bass. For those I used LA-4s or DBXs.

this is the greatest piece of equipment i own. i hired a professional consultant to find the best equipment and this was first on his list. absolutley AMAAAAAAZING!!!!!!!!
