well, Times Square is the intersection of Broadway, 7th Avenue, and 42nd Street. Not all trains that stop at 42nd street stop at times square. Some trains stop at 42nd Street & 6th Avenue, 8th Avenue, Park Avenue (which is Grand Central), and Lexington. So telling you which 42nd street it is is more helpful.
went on the subway today took me three trains to pass by to figure out the metro card bring back the tokens

One reason is They have multiple names like "Times Square - 42nd Street". One that doesn't live in New York could very easily get lost.
