#1 turning spokes clockwise tightens, counterclockwise loosens. Always adjust spokes in pairs ie. tighten clockwise 1/4 turn and the adjacent spoke counter clockwise 1/4 turn.
Brake pads often move when truing a wheel. Take a piece of chalk (hold against frame) and spin the wheel rapidly while slowly moving the chalk until it touches the rim. Using chalk makes it easy to find where the wheel is out of true and is easy to remove and reapply for the next true check.

I've adjusted my spokes so the brake don't touch. But now I got an oval wheel. Damn!

I do support my local bicycle shop. I buy parts from them. Sometimes. But I can't afford bicycle shop labor and feel that being able to make any/all repairs/upgrades to my bike is an important skill set to have when I'm 1,000 miles from home on a trip.

By the way River City Bicycles are based in Portland Oregon if you want to pay them a visit for a bike service or any repairs.

@joelwhitelaw1 Easy. Loosen the spokes on the dented side of the wheel and tighten the spokes on the bulging side of the wheel.
