We used to joke that because of it's beginnings, the University of Illinois should be called: the University of Illinois State!

Illinois State University was the first public university in the state, founded in 1857. When the state wanted to set up the University of Illinois, they borrowed professors and equipment from ISU. University of Illinois was once considered an extension campus of ISU. ISU is usually ranked best in the nation for education majors. The majors in accounting, communications,biology,drama, and library science are also usually rated among the top 5 nationwide. ISU has the best looking students too!
