Many farmers in Vietnam depend on collecting fuel wood for their energy needs, which is a time-consuming effort, especially for woman and children. Cooking on fuel wood causes serious health risks due to indoor air pollution. In addition, many Vietnamese farmers keep pigs, of which the manure causes serious environmental pollution and bad odours. Domestic biogas digesters provide a solution to these problems, as they convert animal manure and toilet waste into clean biogas for cooking and lighting. The digested effluent is used as valuable fertiliser to improve crop yields. SNV supports the Vietnamese Biogas Programme for the Animal Husbandry Sector by providing capacity development services.
