Directly in our path was an ensnared humpback whale. After observing it for a period of time it was obviously stressed, immobile, and exhausted. Considering the gentle nature of humpback whales and the obvious immediate need of help, we were able to approach it and remove the net, freeing the whale. The net had severely restricted the whale's movement and was tethered to the bottom and the whale could just barely breathe. After removal of the net, the whale swam gently and peaceably off into the distance.
Bravo for you saving this humpback!!! Unfortunately whale/human conflicts like this happen as we encroach more and more in their habitats as is happening in this bay in Mexico
