@mylostcat I thank you for that information. Truth be known, when I saw that movie with Jessica Lange playing the part of Frances, I actually got nauseated when she was going through that part of the movie. I felt terrible for her. What a shame the film makers have to sensationalize to their own opinion, such a great actress.

she didn't have a lobotomy. the film makers used william arnold's 'shadowland' as reference, but he later admitted he had made this up, along with quite a lot of other stuff, to sensationalise her story. it was proposed by the hospital but her father forbid it. her sister Edith also says she never underwent the procedure.
she was badly treated by many people and institutions but much of this film is based on a discredited book, so don't accept it as fact.
she was great though :)
